My Approach

My approach to therapy is attachment-based and insight oriented. I primarily draw on four theoretical models to develop effective and individualized treatment plans.

Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Explores the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal is to identify and change unhelpful and negative thinking patterns, and find new perspectives and new ways of viewing situations. This approach is problem-solving and goal-oriented.

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

Creates corrective emotional experiences within an affirming therapeutic relationship.  AEDP is premised on the belief that disorders of emotion and relationship are rooted in an early childhood history of traumatic emotional states.  Non-pathologizing and healing-oriented.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Helps people identify and accept the different parts of themselves.  It's based on the idea that the mind is like a family, made up of multiple sub-personalities, or "parts".  These sub-personalities consist of wounded parts and painful emotions such as anger and shame. IFS focuses on healing the wounded parts and restoring mental balance and harmony.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Views human beings as innately social and wired for connection with others. It is a humanistic, evidence-based approach to psychotherapy, drawing primarily from attachment theory to facilitate secure, vibrant connection with self and others. Rooted in the science of emotions and attachment, EFT helps clients identify negative processing and interaction patterns that create distress.  It also helps clients recognize and express their emotional needs more effectively.
